CEO Statement: Melbourne Cup Carnival Broadcast Rights

Racing Victoria (RV) Chief Executive, Giles Thompson, has issued the following statement regarding today’s announcement by the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) that it has awarded the rights to broadcast the Melbourne Cup Carnival from 2019 to 2023 to Network Ten.

The VRC also announced that Racing.com, a joint venture partnership between RV and Seven West Media, has reached an agreement with Network Ten that will see Racing.com continue its live coverage of all races during the Melbourne Cup Carnival across its channels and the Racing.com app.

“We look forward to Network Ten continuing the outstanding coverage of the Melbourne Cup Carnival that the Seven Network has delivered since 2002 and welcome early comments that the network is committed to supporting the promotion of Victorian racing throughout the year.

“Seven West Media, owners of the Seven Network, remain the VRC’s broadcast partner for the 2018 Melbourne Cup Carnival and beyond that the industry’s joint venture partner in Racing.com which showcases Victorian racing year-round on free-to-air and subscription TV, along with its digital platforms.

“Seven West Media has been a great partner of Victorian racing for many years and will continue to remain so through our Racing.com joint venture and the premium broadcast agreement that will see 21 premium Saturday meetings broadcast each year on the Seven Network until at least June 2020.

“We are pleased that Network Ten have agreed to terms that will allow Racing.com to continue its live in-depth coverage of all races from the Melbourne Cup Carnival until at least 2023. This complements existing agreements that grant Racing.com the right to broadcast all other Victorian race meetings on free-to-air television until at least 2024.”
