Following yesterday’s nominations deadline for The Jericho Cup (4600m), Racing Victoria (RV) has today issued the weights for the $300,000 race, scheduled for Sunday, 2 December at Warrnambool.
Open to Australian and New Zealand-bred horses only, The Jericho Cup will be run under highweight conditions and restricted to licensed highweight riders only, with the field to travel through Brierly Paddock which traditionally plays host to jumping races.
Symon Wilde’s Grand Annual Steeplechase (5500m) hero, Gold Medals, has been issued the top weight of 70kg, off a minimum of 64kg. Other horses with more than 65kg include the Paul Preusker-trained Bling Dynasty (69.5kg), ballot exempt runners Doc Holliday (67kg) and Truly High (66.5kg), the in-form The Dominator (66.5kg), Beach God (66kg) and Thunder Road (65.5kg).
To assist riders in their preparation for The Jericho Cup, RV has continued to program highweight races with two races converted at Moe this Thursday, 22 November with another two converted at bet365 Park Kyneton on Thursday, 29 November.
36 nominations were received at yesterday’s entry deadline with final acceptances to be taken at 12 noon on Tuesday, 27 November and the field released that afternoon.
