Ballarat Cup Day plays host to VOBIS Gold Eureka Stockade

While the Spring Racing Carnival may be drawing to a close, the VOBIS Gold Premier Race series is just ramping up for another season, with the next leg taking place this Saturday, 24 November on Sportsbet Ballarat Cup Day.

The Polytrack VOBIS Gold Eureka Stockade (1400m) is the second of 18 races to be run across metropolitan and country Victoria in the series that offers $4.45 million in prizemoney.

The $180,000 race, which is restricted to three-year-olds, will be contested by a field of 11 horses which includes the Hayes, Hayes and Dabernig-trained Enbihaar, who won the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude in February before placing second in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes later that month.

Her stablemate Dalswinston is also a leading contender following his win at Ballarat earlier this month, which came off the back of two second placings from only six starts.

Other notable runners in the race, which is scheduled for 2.40pm, include the Leon and Troy Corstens-trained Really Swish, who finished second behind stablemate Thrillster in April’s VOBIS Gold Rush (1200m), and Darren Weir’s promising No Emotion, who has won two of his past three starts.

The Tony McEvoy-trained Winning Partner, who makes his VOBIS Gold Premier Race series debut, will be bidding for back-to-back wins following his maiden victory at Bendigo in October.

The VOBIS Gold Premier Race Series runs from October 2018 to July 2019 and is headlined this season by the introduction of ‘The Showdown’, a $1 million VOBIS Sires race for two-year-olds.

A total of 843 Victorian-sired horses are eligible for the ‘The Showdown’, which will be held at Caulfield on Saturday, 27 April 2019 on Victorian Owners and Breeders Race Day.
