With 30mm of rain having fallen in the last 24 hours in Ballarat, bringing the total over the past month to more than 160mm, Racing Victoria (RV) has this morning announced that the meeting at Sportsbet-Ballarat this Sunday, 16 June will be transferred to Echuca Racecourse.
RV Stewards and staff at Ballarat Turf Club inspected the turf track yesterday afternoon and again this morning, when it was deemed that the surface will be unsuitable for racing, requiring the switch of the nine-race card to Echuca.
Parts of the Ballarat turf track underwent renovation during the construction of the Ballarat synthetic track this season. As a result, sections shortly after the winning post and at the 1700-metre mark are wetter than other areas of the course.
Having reviewed the current racing program and the impacts of weather across the state, Echuca was chosen as the most suitable turf venue to host the transferred meeting. The track at Echuca, which has received significantly less rainfall than Ballarat, is currently rated a Heavy 8.
Acceptances for the transferred meeting will now close at 10am this morning.
As a result of the transfer there has been a distance change to two of the nine races, with full details below:
