Jordan Childs crowned inaugural Best Bets Star of the Saddle winner

Jordan Childs has been crowned the inaugural Best Bets Star of the Saddle and collects a $50,000 prize after an impressive riding display at Flemington this afternoon.

The Star of the Saddle was launched to recognise the best and fairest jockey at selected feature meetings throughout the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival.

With points awarded on a 3-2-1 basis to the placegetters in each race, Jordan Childs amassed 10 points to be crowned the Star of the Saddle on TAB Turnbull Stakes Day.

Childs was victorious aboard Surprise Baby in the Lexus Bart Cummings (2520m) and Mildred in the Darley Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m), as well as registering two minor placings.

He defeated Jye McNeil who finished second on 7 points after piloting Kings Will Dream and Taraayef to victory in the TAB Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and Antler Luggage Poseidon Stakes respectively. Damian Lane (6 points), Dwayne Dunn (5 points) and Martin Harley and Mark Zahra (tied on 4 points) round out the top six placegetters.

The Star of the Saddle will be next awarded on Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas Day on Saturday, 12 October with a $50,000 prize on offer for the best and fairest jockey.
