Hot weather forces schedule change for The Valley

Due to the high temperatures forecast this Friday (20 December), Racing Victoria (RV) wishes to advise of interim changes to the race meeting at Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC).

With temperatures in excess of 40 degrees predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), the first race has been provisionally moved back 30 minutes to 7pm, with the last of eight races scheduled for 10.30pm. The decision was made in order to avoid the hottest part of the day and take advantage of the cool change, which is expected to arrive later in the evening.

With the welfare of horses and participants of paramount importance, RV will continue to monitor the forecast and consult with club officials, the Victorian Jockeys’ Association and Australian Trainers’ Association before making a final decision on whether or not the meeting will proceed.

Should the meeting go ahead, the revised program is as follows:

Race 2

Race 3

Race 4

Race 5

Race 6

In order to ensure the health and wellbeing of horses and participants, RV’s Procedure for Racing in Hot Weather Policy is enacted at all meetings where high temperatures are forecast.
