Cautious approach to Kilmore re-opening

Racing Victoria (RV) and the Kilmore Racing Club (KRC) have announced that the resumption of racing at Kilmore has been rescheduled from 14 January to 6 February 2020.

RV and KRC are taking a cautious approach to ensure that the Kilmore track is best placed to host racing on an ongoing basis following a major upgrade completed last spring with the support of the Government’s Victorian Racing Industry Fund.

The home straight has been widened by five metres; the camber improved between the crossing and 1200 metre chute and around the home turn; and drainage improvements have been made between the 300 metre and 1200 metre chute. 

The additional three weeks will ensure that the Kilmore track has had sufficient time to consolidate, taking into account the unusual weather patterns experienced throughout the final quarter of 2019.

Today’s announcement will necessitate the transfer of the following race meetings:

• Tuesday, 14 January – to Werribee
• Thursday, 23 January – to Wangaratta

Nominations for the Werribee meeting close at 12 noon (AEDT) this Wednesday, 8 January, with acceptances taken at 9am (AEDT) on Friday, 10 January.

RV is keen to conduct the 23 January meeting at Wangaratta given the Club’s loss of today’s race meeting. It will continue to monitor conditions in the north east up to the closure of nominations on Monday, 20 January.
