RV Stewards' Report - Nathan Newton

Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards have today issued a charge against licensed jockey Nathan Newton following an inquiry into his ride on Danayi in Race 2, the Hygain BM58 Highweight Handicap (1600m), at Hamilton on Tuesday, 10 November 2020.

Mr Newton has been issued with one charge under AR 129(2) which states that a rider must take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure the rider’s horse is given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field.

The Stewards allege that between approximately the 1400m and the 600m of the Race, Mr Newton permitted Danayi to stride at an extremely fast tempo and failed to make sufficient effort to steady his mount (where it was reasonable and permissible to do so).

The charge will be heard by the Victorian Racing Tribunal on a date to be fixed.
