Peter Campbell to lead Victorian racing's new integrated media business

The Board of the newly created Victorian Thoroughbred Racing Integrated Media Business (VTRIMB) has appointed Peter Campbell as its inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Mr Campbell, who will commence as VTRIMB CEO in early October, was selected to lead the business due to his extensive experience in sports media with Foxtel, NewsCorp and the AFL.

Mr Campbell was most recently Head of Fox Sports Australia (2017-2020) where he was responsible for Fox Sports commercial and broadcast operations including partnerships with Australia’s largest and most successful team-based sporting codes – the AFL, NRL and Cricket Australia.

Formerly, Mr Campbell was General Manager of AFL Media (2013-2017) and prior to that Director of Sports & Olympic Games at Foxtel (1999-2013).

VTRIMB brings together Racing Victoria’s (RV) media assets, operations and partnerships into one business to maximise opportunities for the coverage and promotion of Victorian thoroughbred racing and its engagement with fans.

The business will assume management of RV’s majority-owned media assets being industry broadcaster Racing.com (including broadcast and digital platforms), racing publications Best Bets and Winning Post, and industry photographer Racing Photos.

VTRIMB is also assuming management of RV’s key media and broadcast partnerships including those with Seven West Media, SKY Racing, Thoroughbred Racing Productions (TRP), Telstra, Gravity Media and a range of Wagering Service Providers (WSPs, with digital streaming agreements).

RV Chairman, Brian Kruger, said, “I am delighted that the new VTRIMB Board has appointed Peter Campbell to the position of inaugural VTRIMB Chief Executive following a thorough recruitment process.

“Peter brings outstanding qualifications in sports media and broadcasting to the role as a former Head of Fox Sports Australia and AFL Media, and his knowledge and experience will be invaluable as he steps into this newly created role.

“The establishment of the VTRIMB is an important step in our objective to maximise the coverage and promotion of Victorian thoroughbred racing, driving greater alignment in our media assets and partnerships, and to capitalise on growth opportunities.

Mr Campbell said, “Thoroughbred racing has an incredibly rich history in Victoria and I am excited to be playing a leadership role in delivering RV’s vision to maximise opportunities to grow the sport into the future. The creation of an integrated media business will be central to achieving that.

“This is a unique opportunity to lead a newly created business, one that brings together successful racing media channels and teams under the one roof, along with the industry’s critical broadcast partnerships.

“I look forward to playing my role to drive engagement with Victorian racing and ensure we deliver value to all racing industry stakeholders.”
