The meeting at Sportsbet-Pakenham tonight (Friday, 15 October) has been abandoned after two races due to poor visibility caused by heavy rainfall.
Several jockeys riding in race two expressed concern with the deteriorating conditions after returning to the mounting yard, and the majority of jockeys with a ride in race three voted in favour of abandoning the remainder of the meeting.
As per Racing Victoria’s (RV) policy on abandoned meetings, the connections of all horses due to compete in the remaining six races will receive a $550 compensation fee.
Any trainers with runners affected by the abandonment now have until 4pm (AEDT) this Sunday (17 October) to nominate their horses for the bet365 Geelong Cup Day meeting at Geelong Racing Club next Wednesday (20 October).
