Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards inspected the surface and Stony Creek club officials performed some remedial work on the area of concern, which appeared to be significantly softer than the rest of the track.
The jockeys and Stewards subsequently re-inspected the affected section of the track and a vote was then conducted amongst all riders engaged in race five, with the majority voting not to proceed with the remainder of the meeting.
RV officials are liaising with club staff to try to determine the cause of the issue, and any connections affected by the abandonment will receive a compensation payment in line with RV’s policy.
Trainers can nominate affected horses for race meetings this Friday (31 December) and Saturday (1 January) before 10am tomorrow (Tuesday, 28 December), and as extended entries before 6pm tonight for Thursday’s meeting at Spendthrift Australia Park (Werribee).
