Statement from RV Chairman on Martin Pakula

Racing Victoria (RV) Chairman, Brian Kruger, has issued the following statement upon today’s announcement by Minister for Racing, Martin Pakula, that he is retiring from politics this year.

“On behalf of all within the Victorian thoroughbred racing industry, I wish to extend our immense gratitude to Martin Pakula for the passion, commitment and support he has afforded the racing portfolio during his parliamentary career.

“Martin has been a great advocate for our sport and its importance to the state, particularly in regional and country Victoria.

“He has worked tirelessly to support the both the people and the horses involved in our industry, particularly throughout the COVID pandemic, and he has championed key strategic investments in equine welfare, infrastructure, and tracks to foster improvements and growth in Victorian racing.

“Martin has worked closely with the industry to ensure that Victoria remains a world leader in thoroughbred racing and that iconic events like the Spring Racing Carnival and Lexus Melbourne Cup continue to be highlights of the state’s major events portfolio.

“As a senior minister, Martin has provided great advocacy and leadership for our industry in the cabinet room, and we look forward to the Government’s continued support of Victorian racing, both as a major employer and a source of great entertainment for Victorians and visitors alike.

“We wish Martin the very best for his life beyond politics. He will always be a welcome guest at racetracks across Victoria.”
