RV Stewards' Report - Andrew Homann

Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards have received a report from Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) confirming that a prohibited substance has been detected in a pre-race blood sample collected from the Andrew Homann-trained racehorse, Irish Pardon.

The report relates to a pre-race blood sample taken from Irish Pardon prior to the gelding finishing third in the Sportsbet Bet With Mates Class 1 Handicap - (Race 8) over 1500 metres run at Ballarat Racecourse on 9 June 2022.

RASL reported that the blood sample was shown to contain Meloxicam (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory), which is a prohibited substance on raceday in accordance with the Australian Rules of Racing.

The Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) also reported that it had detected Meloxicam within the reserve portion of the blood sample.

RV Stewards initially informed Mr Andrew Homann of the irregularity on 9 July 2022.  Mr Andrew Homann was informed today of the confirmatory findings and that Stewards are continuing their investigation.

RV Stewards' Report - Sharon Croxford and Jason Mills

Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards have issued the following charges against Licensed Trainer Sharon Croxford and Licensed Stable Hand and Registered Owner Jason Mills pursuant to Australian Rule 231(1)(b)(iii), which states:

AR 231 Care and Welfare of Horses
 
(1)    A person must not:

(b) if the person is in charge of a horse – fail at any time:

(iii) to provide veterinary treatment to a horse where such treatment is necessary for the horse;

The particulars of the charges are summarised as follows:

  • Sharon Croxford is a trainer licensed by RV and was a person in charge of a retired thoroughbred Precis.
  • Jason Mills is a stable hand registered with RV and was the registered owner of Precis.
  • Stewards allege that, during the period from approximately 1 June 2021 to the 26 October 2021, Sharon Croxford and Jason Mills failed to provide veterinary treatment to Precis regarding a hind leg injury sustained in a paddock accident, where such treatment was necessary.

The charges will be heard before the Victorian Racing Tribunal on a date of be fixed.
