Today’s Kyneton meeting abandoned

Racing Victoria Staff

Racing Victoria (RV) confirms that today’s Kyneton meeting has been abandoned due to concerns with inconsistencies in the surface.

Following 2.5mm of overnight rain, club staff rated the track a Soft (5) this morning before a further 5mm of rain resulted in Stewards downgrading the surface to a Soft (6).

Jockeys raised concerns with Stewards prior to the first race due to inconsistencies in the track including firmness and slipping concerns in different sections.

A subsequent vote resulted in the jockeys on course voting in favour of abandoning the meeting 12:0 (two abstained) before Stewards abandoned the meeting at 1.37pm.

A routine inspection of the Kyneton track was conducted yesterday and a horse galloped over the surface this morning with the feedback from the rider that the track was suitable for racing.

Racing Victoria’s Tracks and Facilities team will inspect the Kyneton track tomorrow and work with club staff to remedy the issues ahead of their next race meeting on Thursday, 23 April.

Trainers affected by the abandonment can nominate their horses as extended entries for the meetings at Seymour on Monday, 13 April and Donald on Tuesday, 14 April by 4pm today and as normal entries for Sandown on Wednesday, 15 April by 10am tomorrow by emailing the Racing Operations team at RVracing@racingvictoria.net.au.

RV’s Racing Operations department will review the upcoming race program in order to determine whether any changes are required to accommodate those horses.

The jump-outs scheduled for Kyneton tomorrow also won’t proceed with a replacement set to be explored to accommodate those horses.

Under RV’s abandoned meeting policy, the connections of any horses engaged to run in today’s eight races are eligible to receive a compensation fee.

Additionally, RV will provide the $100 business support subsidy payment to trainers for each starter on the abandoned program and all jockeys engaged to ride at the meeting with also receive their $50 business support subsidy to assist with escalating fuel costs.
