Please be aware that:
- the raceday urine threshold for cobalt will be lowered from 200ug/L to 100ug/L with effect from 1 September 2016; and
- a new raceday plasma threshold of 25ug/L will also be implemented from 1 September 2016.
The lowered urine cobalt threshold and the new plasma threshold provides a significantly more sensitive means of detecting the abuse of cobalt in racing.
Last season in Victoria the mean raceday urinary cobalt level, from approximately 4,000 samples, was 7ug/L and the mean plasma cobalt level, from approximately 2,000 samples, was 2ug/L.
