Breeders across the nation have again thrown their support behind Super VOBIS, with a strong book of nominations received from owners of eligible 2014-born foals.
Interest in the scheme has seen 2,582 horses paid-up for Victoria’s premier breeding and racing incentive scheme when nominations closed on February 1, the third year in a row that nominations have exceeded 2500.
Racing Victoria’s (RV) Executive General Manager – Racing, Greg Carpenter, said he was thrilled with the outstanding response to the scheme, which reflected the growing popularity of Super VOBIS.
“Breeders and owners have given us yet another indication that they have tremendous faith in the Super VOBIS scheme, as highlighted by the overwhelming amount of nominations we’ve received,” Carpenter said.
“Last year we recorded an 11-year high amount of nominations off the back of the re-invigoration of the Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold schemes and I am confident that we can again exceed last year’s outstanding nomination figures by the close of late-nominations on Wednesday, 31 August.”
Carpenter pointed to the success of a number of VOBIS Gold graduates such as Trust In A Gust, Fontein Ruby, Eloping and Written Up when highlighting the worth of the scheme.
“The VOBIS Gold riches on offer state-wide has seen a tremendous boost to nominations, affirming the status of Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold as Australia’s premier breeding and racing scheme. There has never been a better time to breed, buy, own and race a horse in Victoria.”
Horses must first be nominated to Super VOBIS to be eligible for the riches of VOBIS Gold.
The nomination announcement comes on the eve of the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale where in excess of 500 Victorian-bred youngsters will sport a Super VOBIS sticker as they make their way through the ring.
The popular sale, which commences at Inglis’ Oaklands Junction facility on Sunday, 28 February, features a catalogue of 755 quality yearlings including youngsters by Victorian freshman sires Americain and Squamosa.
