All Stars hit the jockeys for six

Sixteen of Australia’s leading jockeys swapped their jockey silks for cricket whites for the seventh annual TAB National Jockeys’ Trust T20 Cricket Match, which was held on Monday at its new venue, Williamstown Oval.

Eight-time Scobie Breasley Medal winner Damien Oliver captained his fellow hoops, the Touchstone Farm Jockeys, against the Heritage Finance Racing All Stars, which included the likes of former AFL star Brendan Fevola and Socceroo Archie Thompson.

Watched by a healthy crowd which included special guest Subzero, Fevola and co. came away with the spoils after the jockeys managed 103 runs in reply to the All-Stars’ total of 117.

More importantly, the match helped raise more than $130,000 for the NJT, a charitable organisation which has now provided $4.3 million of funding and support to 435 jockeys – and their families – who have suffered serious or fatal injuries in the saddle.

AFL greats Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico and Rex Hunt served as guest umpires, while racecallers Greg Miles and Adam Crettenden led the commentary team.
