Matthew Pumpa - Apprentice Jockey Coach (Racing Victoria)
Matt completed his apprenticeship as a jockey and is a former Dux of the Victorian Apprentice School (now Apprentice Jockey Training Program) and has experience race riding within Australia, Macau, Singapore and Hong Kong and is a Group 1 winning rider of over 600 races. Matt is a riding coach, coordinator and mentor to the apprentices.
Darren Gauci - Apprentice Jockey Coach (Racing Victoria)
Darren joins the AJTP in 2017, having recently retired from a glittering career as a jockey. In a riding career spanning more than three decades, Darren won more than 2500 races, including 35 Group 1 victories. An outstanding apprentice himself that still holds the Australian record of 506 wins during his riding apprenticeship, Darren is passionate about assisting the development of Victoria’s next generation of top jockeys.
Ron Hall - Jockey Wellbeing and Safety Officer (Racing Victoria)
Ron completed his jockey apprenticeship and Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, and has over 20 years extensive experience across track work riding, race riding, stable management and horse training. Ron also mentors the apprentices and provides support in the transition from apprentice to jockey.
Melissa Weatherley - Ahlete and Careers Development Manager Racing Victoria
Melissa has worked in education for 10 years as a teacher, including experience and a post graduate qualification in Careers Education and Development, and most recently studying careers counselling for elite athletes. Melissa is the coordinator of the Apprentice Jockey program training and provides careers and education support to the apprentice jockeys, complementing the VIS ACE program.

Andre Kassay - Raceday Stewards Panel Form Analyst (Racing Victoria)
Andre is currently working as Race Form and Betting Analyst at RV. An expert with over 20 years extensive experience in form analysis in the industry sharing his expert knowledge with apprentices.
Alf Matthews - Race Riding (Racing Victoria)
Alf completed his jockey apprenticeship in 1977, was a professional jockey for 23 years; which included riding internationally and retired in 2000. Alf worked as Sky Channel host and has acted as advocate for jockeys at appeals. A specialist in race riding analysis and tactics Alf‘s experience is a great addition to the program.
Sal Perna - Office of the Racing Integrity Commissioner (ORIC)
Mr Perna's career has included 20 years with Victoria Police, reaching Commissioned Officer rank and serving twice in the Homicide Squad. His corporate experience includes over 11 years as the head of Australia Post's Corporate Security Group and over three years as the Director Corporate Security at Telstra. In 2007 he founded and became the Managing Director of Calibre International Pty Ltd, a bespoke security risk and management consultancy focused on providing corporate clients with specialised services. In this role, Mr Perna was the architect of Tennis Australia's Anti-Corruption Program for the Australian Open and assisted the Australian Football League (AFL) in the development of their integrity assurance program.
Mr Perna and the ORIC are an integral part of the AJTP.
Rob Gaylard - Media and Communications
Rob is a leading racing media presenter with over 20 years experience as a television journalist and sports presenter. He established his own company in 1999 providing media and communication training to private and business sectors. Rob also hosts conference both locally and overseas as well as being a television presenter / commentator.
Dr Melissa Artkinstall (ERA)
Dr Melissa Arkinstall is the Director of Exercise Research Australia (ERA). Melissa holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) and PhD in Exercise Physiology. Her research has been presented at both national and international level with high regard in the exercise physiology discipline. ERA offers specialised sports physiology testing and consultancy services. Melissa is a member of the RMIT Human Movement Program Advisory Committee and the National Sports Science Accreditation Committee (NSSAC).
Bernadette Sierakowski - Athlete Career and Education Coordinator (VIS)
Bernadette holds a Masters of Education and a graduate certificate in athlete and career education. A former teacher and a Deputy Chair of the Catholic Education Office, Bernadette has been in this role with the VIS for 10 years, is well qualified to work with students and athletes. Bernadette works with high performance athletes to have a balanced approach to sporting excellence and helps them transition to a new beginning post competing.
Dr Lisa Stevens - Sports Performance
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) Honours and a Master of Applied Psychology (Sport). Lisa is also registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS), member of the College of Sport and Exercise Psychology (CoSEP), member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) and member of the International Society of Sport Psychology (ISSP)
Lisa is a former Australian Champion and NCAS coach and has been the sport psychology consultant for a number of elite sporting clubs, institutes and organisations including the following: Racing Victoria, Victorian Jockey Association, Victoria Institute of Sport, Swimming Australian, Women’s Artistic Gymnastic High Performance Centre, AFLPA, Geelong Football Club, Carlton Football Club and Western Bulldogs Football Club.

Helen is the founder of Physio4athletes clinic, Melbourne. Helen is a titled Sports Physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Applied Science, Physio; Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy and a PhD in Sports Injury Risk. Helen has over 25 years of private practice experience and sports coverage work including Commonwealth and Olympic Games. Helen currently consults to RVL AJP, Swimming Australia High Performance and Malaysian Track cycling.
