About

In a brief yet brilliant career on the turf, prodigiously talented Red Anchor recorded nine wins from 14 starts.  He was undefeated in his three-year-old season, claiming the title of 1984-85 Australian Champion Racehorse. As a two-year-old he was trained by Paul Sutherland at Rosehill, winning the Champagne Stakes and the Queensland Sires’ Produce Stakes before being transferred to Hall of Fame Legend T.J. Smith. A superb spring campaign in 1984 included Caulfield Guineas, Cox Plate and Victoria Derby successes. Shortly after his win in the 1985 weight-for-age Apollo Stakes, Red Anchor was retired to stand at Baramul Stud.

"I've been on plenty of good ones - horses like Gurner's Lane, Strawberry Road and Grosvenor - but Red Anchor is the best." - Mick Dittman (jockey)
