Apprentice Jockeys - Additional Information

For any new applicants wishing to become an Apprentice Jockey, please contact the Apprentice Jockey Coach by email at workforcedevelopment@racingvictoria.net.au or by phone (03) 9258 4204.

Loan Application Form & Process
For any apprentice who wishes to make application to be placed on loan in Victoria, please contact the Apprentice Jockey Coach at workforcedevelopment@racingvictoria.net.au or phone (03) 9258 4204.

An application does not guarantee acceptance, and all applicants are advised to confirm the decision of the Apprentice panel prior to agreeing to any terms and conditions with a Victorian Trainer.

Ultimately the decision lies with Racing Victoria’s Apprentice Panel as to whether a loan application will be accepted. All inquiries are requested to be directed to the above-mentioned contact details.

Picnic Jockeys - Additional Information

If you are not currently licensed as a Picnic Jockey and wish to apply for a licence for the 2023-24 season your complete application must be submitted to Racing Australia via licensing@racingaustralia.horse no later than 30 June 2023. Applications received after 30 June 2023 will not be considered and applicates will need to wait until 2024 to apply for the 2024/25 season.    

A complete application includes:

  1. Completed jockey licence application form;
  2. Jockey Medical Form;
  3. National Police Check;
  4. Cognitive test results performed by Racing Victoria’s Jockey Wellbeing and Safety Officer who can be contacted at r.hall@racingvictoria.net.au; and
  5. Evidence of enrollment in the following riding course: Certificate III in Racing (Trackrider)

Following review of your application you will be advised of the next steps you are required to complete.

Applications received after 30 June 2023 will not be considered and applicants will need to wait until 2023 to apply for the 2024-25 season.

Jumps Jockeys - Additional Information

To apply for a Jumps Jockey licence a complete application must be submitted to Racing Australia via licensing@racingaustralia.horse.

A complete application includes:

  • Completed Jockey Licence Application Form;
  • Jockey Medical Form;
  • National Police Check;
  • Cognitive test results performed by Racing Victoria’s Jockey Wellbeing and Safety Officer who can be contacted at r.hall@racingvictoria.net.au; and
  • Evidence of completing Jumps Accreditation Program (including the Race Riding Criteria)

Following a review of your application, you will be advised of the next steps you are required to complete.
