RV Stewards' Report - Kate Walters

Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the conduct of licensed jockey Ms Kate Walters following Race 3 at Nhill on Tuesday, 26 December 2023.

On the day evidence was taken from a number of RV and Club staff on duty. At that point the matter was adjourned.

The matter was reconvened today whereby Ms Walters, assisted by Victorian Jockeys Association (VJA) CEO Mr Matthew Hyland, gave further evidence. Licensed trainer Mr Kane Post also gave evidence on behalf of Ms Walters.

Ms Walters was found guilty of a charge of improper or insulting behaviour under AR 228 (c) (Conduct detrimental to the interests of racing) in that she engaged in improper and/or insulting behaviour towards a Stipendiary Steward.

In determining what they believe to be the appropriate penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the comments made, Ms Walters’ plea, her personal circumstances, and prior record in relation to conduct offences.

Ms Walters’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of three months to commence immediately and to expire on Thursday, 4 April 2024, on which day she may ride.

Ms Walters was advised of her rights of appeal.
