RV Stewards' Report - Carly Cook
Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards have concluded their inquiries into the training bona fides of Pintoff and Glass Harmonium x Auroras Hot (2020) (now named Seethru).
The inquiry was adjourned on 19 December 2023 after licensed jockey Josh Cartwright had pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 97 (1) and was fined $20,000.
AR 97 (1) states:
A person can only train a horse at a registered racecourse, training track or training facility if the person has been issued with a licence or permit to train from the PRA where the horse is being trained.
The particulars of Mr Cartwright’s charge were that, commencing on or about 31 January 2023 and through to on or about 8 September 2023, Mr Cartwright trained the horses, Pintoff and Glass Harmonium x Aurora’s Hot (2020) (now named Seethru), at the premises of licensed trainer Carly Cook when he was not licensed as a trainer.
On 19 December 2023, Ms Cook pleaded not guilty to a charge under AR 97 (2), and the Stewards acceded to Ms Cook’s request for an adjournment.
Ms Cook tendered written submissions to Stewards on 29 December 2023, and at a hearing on 4 January 2024 Ms Cook provided further verbal evidence to Stewards.
Stewards subsequently found Ms Cook guilty of the charge issued on 19 December 2023 under AR 97 (2) which states:
Any person who is party to a breach of (AR 97) subrule (1) may also be penalised.
The particulars of Ms Cook’s charge being that, commencing on or about 31 January 2023 and through to on or about 8 September 2023, Ms Cook allowed and was a party to Mr Cartwright training the horses, Pintoff and Glass Harmonium x Aurora’s Hot (2020) (now named Seethru), at her licensed premises.
After hearing submissions on penalty, Ms Cook was fined $10,000.
