The chance to win big as All-Star Mile competition opens today

Everyday Australians and Kiwis have the chance to win big from today (Monday, 5 February) with entries now open for the 2024 All-Star Mile Owner Ambassador Competition which carries a lucrative prize pool of $250,000 in cash.

With previous winners having splashed their windfall on luxuries ranging from top-of-the-range cars to dream holidays, the All-Star Mile will again cement its status as more than just a horse race through the revamped public competition.

Owner ambassadors will be assigned to each runner in the All-Star Mile at Caulfield on Saturday, 16 March. The owner ambassador of the winning horse will pocket $100,000 cash, with each owner ambassador to walk away with at least $2,500 cash and lifelong memories.

From today until 6pm (AEDT) on Sunday, 25 February, Australian and New Zealand residents aged 18 or over need only register their details on the All-Star Mile website to go into the draw to become one of the 16 owner ambassadors on All-Star Mile Raceday.

Entry is free and the competition has been simplified this year with voting removed to give everyone, irrespective of their racing knowledge, a chance at sharing in the prize pool.

Residents of each Australian state and territory, including South Australia, are eligible to enter, with the 16 winners – including a minimum of two from New Zealand – will be announced on or before Wednesday, 6 March.

The lucky 16 will be treated to a VIP weekend, with flights (if they live outside Victoria), three nights at Crown and car transfers all laid on before they enjoy a ‘money-can’t-buy’ experience at Caulfield on All-Star Mile Raceday.

Racing Victoria’s (RV) Executive General Manager – Racing, Matt Welsh, said: “The owner ambassador competition is a vital component of the All-Star Mile. The stories behind the owner ambassadors adds an extra layer of interest in the build-up and on raceday, with some memorable scenes as previous winners celebrated their life-changing success.

“We’ve simplified the competition this year to make it easier to enter. You don’t need to be a racing expert to win and it’s free. Simply register your details at the All-Star Mile website and you’re in the running for a slice of the $250,000 prize pool and an all-star experience.

“Every owner ambassador will leave Caulfield a winner with the lucky fan assigned to the All-Star Mile winner collecting $100,000. Whether you love racing or you are just a casual sports fan, now is the time to enter the All-Star Mile Owner Ambassador Competition.”

The draw to assign each owner ambassador to their All-Star Mile runner will take place at the official welcome event on Thursday, 14 March, when the competition winners will also get the chance to meet the connections of the 16 horses contesting the $4 million race.

They include Team Hayes’ defending champion Mr Brightside and a pair of Ciaron Maher-trained contenders, Pride Of Jenni and Jimmysstar, who both received wildcard entries across the weekend.

While Pride Of Jenni is an established star having blazed a trail to win two Group 1 mile races during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Jimmysstar is the lightly raced x-factor who posted his fifth straight win on Saturday at Caulfield.

Among their likely rivals is talented Kiwi galloper Desert Lightning who won his way into the sixth edition of Victoria’s richest mile race with victory in the Aotearoa Classic (1600m) at Ellerslie, NZ last month.

Another ticket into the All-Star Mile will be up for grabs at Caulfield this Saturday, 10 February with the Group 1 Sportsbet C.F.Orr Stakes (1400m) one of eight ‘win and you’re in’ races programmed across Australia and NZ in the lead-up to the 2024 edition.

With Mr Brightside and Pride of Jenni set to contest the C.F. Orr Stakes, RV and hosts the Melbourne Racing Club (MRV) have already announced that they will offer the second placegetter a wildcard into the All-Star Mile if either horse wins the race.
