Wangaratta meeting abandoned

Racing Victoria Staff

Racing Victoria (RV) wishes to advise that the remainder of today’s meeting at Wangaratta has been abandoned after three races due to visibility concerns raised by participating jockeys, who cited kickback from the track which was rated a Heavy 10.

A total of 15 ml of rain has fallen in Wangaratta since 6am this morning, taking the total over the past seven days to 59 ml, and with nine of the 17 jockeys riding in races four and five voting not to proceed RV Stewards took the decision to abandon the meeting in the interests of participant welfare.

Under RV’s abandoned meeting policy, the connections of any horses engaged to run in races four to 10 are eligible to receive a compensation fee.

RV’s Racing Operations department will review the upcoming race program in order to determine whether any changes are required to accommodate those horses.

Trainers affected by the abandonment can nominate their horses as extended entries for the meeting at Sandown this coming Wednesday, 18 June by emailing the Racing Operations team before 4pm this afternoon on RVRacing@racingvictoria.net.au.
