Today’s Kyneton meeting abandoned

Racing Victoria (RV) notes that today’s race meeting at Kyneton has been abandoned after riders raised concerns over the condition of the track.
After the running of Race 1, three jockeys reported that their horses had slipped approaching the home turn near the 600m mark.
Following remedial works to soften the area using an aerator, a further inspection took place between RV stewards, racecourse staff, jockeys and trainers.
A jockey vote was then held under RV’s raceday track safety inspection procedure with eligible riders voting 13-1 to abandon the meeting prior to the running of Race 2.
Upon news of the abandonment, RV has sent a member of its tracks and facilities team to Kyneton to inspect the track and discuss with the Club appropriate plans to have the track in a suitable condition for the Kyneton Cup meeting on 5 November.
RV’s racing operations team will review upcoming race programs to determine whether races need to be added to help accommodate horses from the abandoned Kyneton races.
Horses engaged in Races 2 to 8 today may be entered as late nominations for the Sportsbet Ballarat and The Valley meetings on Friday, 24 October by 5pm today and the Yarra Valley and St Arnaud meetings on Saturday, 25 October by 10am tomorrow. They will also be able to nominate as normal entries for the Sale meeting on Sunday 26, October by 10am tomorrow.
In line with RV’s abandoned meeting policy, the connections of any horses due to compete in Races 2 to 8 will be paid an abandonment fee.
