Applications open for Racing Victoria's Rider Development Squad 

Racing Victoria (RV) wishes to advise that applications are open for the 2026 Rider Development Squad (RDS), which serves to develop the skills and capability of trackwork riders. 

Trackwork riders of all abilities are encouraged to apply for the RDS, which is designed to improve their overall performance and technique by providing education in a wide range of areas including nutrition, strength and conditioning, and riding skills.  

The RDS is also the official pathway for trackwork riders aiming to join the Apprentice Jockey Training Program (AJTP). Membership of the program, which aims to foster personal and professional growth, is a pre-requisite for any prospective applicants for the 2027 AJTP. 

The closing date for applications to be submitted is Wednesday, 28 January 2026, with the first of five training sessions due to take place one week later on Thursday, 5 February 2026.

Training Dates

All RDS training sessions are held at the RV head office (400 Epsom Road, Flemington) and dates are subject to change:

• Thursday, 5 February & Friday, 6 February 2026

• Thursday, 23 April & Friday, 24 April 2026

• Thursday, 11 June & Friday, 12 June 2026

• Friday, 3 July 2026 (for AJTP expression of interest only)

• Thursday, 27 August & Friday, 28 August 2026

• Thursday, 10 September 2026 (for AJTP expression of interest only)

• Thursday, 8 October & Friday, 9 October 2026

Please note: For RDS training sessions that run across two days, each rider will be allocated one day only to attend. This ensures the training is delivered in a small group environment to maximise rider engagement and feedback.
