Inspiring the next generation through School Raceday Visits

Racing Victoria Staff

Racing Victoria’s Workforce Development Team continues to play a vital role in showcasing the different career opportunities available within the racing industry, with school raceday tours proving to be a highly impactful initiative.

These visits are designed to give students a behind-the-scenes look at the racing industry, highlighting the diverse range of roles both on and off the track. For many participants, the experience provides a valuable first step toward a potential career in racing. A number of students who attend are already working casually in racing stables, while others are actively exploring how they can get started in the industry.

Importantly, the raceday tours also engage students who may have had limited exposure to racing, or who arrive with preconceived ideas about the sport. Through direct interaction with a wide range of industry professionals, students gain a deeper understanding of the dedication, skill, and care within the industry. These authentic insights often challenge perceptions and leave students with a more informed view.

A key strength of the program is the opportunity for students to connect with passionate industry participants, from trainers and stable staff to racing officials and support personnel. These conversations can be the spark that ignites a future career, whether that’s pursuing further training through programs such as Stable Start or seeking employment within a racing stable. For others, the experience simply broadens their knowledge and appreciation of the industry.

The program continues to grow in 2026, with approximately 10 school raceday tours already scheduled. Each visit typically welcomes between 12 and 30 students, ensuring an engaging experience for all involved.

Racing Victoria extends its thanks to the many industry contributors who generously give their time to support these visits and help inspire the next generation.
