International Horse Update

Racing Victoria (RV) advises that the following international horses have been granted provisional approval to travel via the Werribee International Horse Centre (WIHC) as part of the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival ‘first shipment’:

  • El Bodegon (Chris Waller) – entered for the Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup, Ladbrokes Cox Plate, Lexus Melbourne Cup
  • My Oberon (Annabel Neasham) – Ladbrokes Cox Plate
  • Night Endeavor (Ciaron Maher & David Eustace) - Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup, Ladbrokes Cox Plate, Lexus Melbourne Cup
  • Rodrigo Diaz (David Simcock) – Lexus Melbourne Cup

These horses will be required to enter Pre-Export Quarantine (PEQ) in the UK on Monday, 5 September 2022 and pass a third physical examination by an RV appointed veterinarian during their two-week PEQ before being cleared to conduct their Post-Arrival Quarantine (PAQ) at the WIHC upon arrival in Victoria.

Also scheduled to join this group on the first shipment is Australian sprinter Artorious (Anthony & Sam Freedman) who is returning from competing in the UK and France.

Those horses granted provisional approval at this time to travel via the WIHC as part of the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival ‘second shipment’ are as follows:

  • Camorra (Ben & JD Hayes) – Lexus Melbourne Cup
  • Loft (Marcel Weiss) – Lexus Melbourne Cup
  • Without A Fight (Simon & Ed Crisford) – Lexus Melbourne Cup

These horses will be required to enter PEQ in the UK on Monday, 26 September 2022 and pass a third physical examination by an RV appointed veterinarian during their two-week PEQ before being cleared to conduct their PAQ at the WIHC upon arrival in Victoria.

RV notes that there are international horses expected to feature among first acceptances for the Lexus Melbourne Cup next Tuesday, 6 September 2022 that have yet to undergo scanning and/or have their results submitted for review by the international imaging panel. They have close to three weeks in which to do so.

Finally, RV can confirm that the following horses will not be competing in the 2022 Victorian Spring Racing Carnival:

  • Cleveland (Joseph O’Brien) – Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup, Lexus Melbourne Cup
  • Northern Ruler (Andreas Wohler) – Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup, Lexus Melbourne Cup
  • State Of Rest (Joseph O’Brien) – Ladbrokes Cox Plate
  • Taskhan (Brian Ellison) – Ladbrokes Cox Plate, Lexus Melbourne Cup
  • Trawlerman (John & Thady Gosden) – Lexus Melbourne Cup

Noting that it is the prerogative of connections to communicate why their horse will not be contesting the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival, RV notes for clarity that several of the aforementioned horses were not subjected to the pre-travel veterinary protocols.
