Understanding the OHS Act
Racing Victoria seeks to influence the improvement of the Health & Safety of participants within the Victorian Thoroughbred Racing Industry and works closely with its members and various stakeholders on a range of safety initiatives to ensure continuous improvement in the safety performance of the Industry.
The Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 sets out the legal and administrative guidelines in relation to OH&S in Victoria and establishes the key principles, duties and rights in relation to occupational health and safety.
To promote OHS within the stables and training facilities of the Victorian Thoroughbred Racing Industry, WorkSafe developed industry guidance material providing written and pictorial explanations of safe work practices. The guidance material titled “Horse Stables and Track Riding Safety” was launched with the support of the State Government of Victoria in July 2007.
Incident Notification is an important part of OHS requirements in Victoria, the WorkSafe guidance material titled 'Guide to Incident Notification' can be viewed below.
