Veterinary inspections of all horses engaged to compete in tomorrow’s $5 million All-Star Mile at Flemington have been completed today by Racing Victoria (RV).
The three horses - Foundry, Urban Ruler and Material Man - not passed as suitable to race yesterday were reinspected today by an RV veterinarian and an independent veterinarian and their reports were tabled with the RV stewards.
Stewards, acting upon veterinary advice, ordered the withdrawal of the Terry Kelly-trained Foundry at 10.15am (AEDST) after the horse again presented with lameness in its left fore limb.
First emergency, the Kris Lees-trained Le Romain, was subsequently promoted into the field, with Owner Ambassador Gerard Dooley transferred from Foundry to Le Romain as per the race’s terms and conditions.
The Justin Warwick-trained Material Man and the Chris Munce-trained Urban Ruler were both passed as suitable to race today after showing significant improvement overnight following being attended to by the farrier.
Stewards have approved the application of bar plates to Urban Ruler’s front feet and to Material Man’s left front.
As a precaution, both horses will undergo another veterinary examination upon arrival on course tomorrow.
The four remaining horses inspected today – Balf’s Choice, Hawkshot, Mystic Journey and third emergency Hellova Street – were all passed as suitable to race by the veterinarians.
