It is with sadness that Racing Victoria (RV) confirms that Gatting has been humanely euthanised as a result of an injury sustained during the running of the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington Racecourse today.
The horse received immediate veterinary care, however it was unable to be saved due to the nature of the injury sustained.
His rider, Luke Nolen, was not injured.
RV and VRC extends its condolences to the owners of the horse, trainer Peter Moody, his stable staff and all who cared for the horse throughout his career, both in Western Australia and Victoria, and are greatly saddened by their loss.
A post mortem will be conducted on Gatting at the University of Melbourne Equine Centre as is standard practice.
