VOBIS Gold Premier Race Series heads to Wangaratta

The VOBIS Gold Premier Race Series heads to Wangaratta this Sunday, 4 March with the running of the $100,000 Crownbet VOBIS Gold Eldorado (1300m) for horses aged three and older.

The nine-horse field is headlined by bargain buy and recent VOBIS Gold Star (1500m) winner, Widgee Turf, who is searching for his second consecutive VOBIS Gold Premier Race Series victory.

Bought for just $4,500 from the Inglis Melbourne Great Southern Weanling Sale in 2014, the Patrick Payne-trained four-year-old gelding has now won more than $500,000 in his short career, and will be chasing his fifth consecutive win.

Among his rivals are regular VOBIS Gold contenders Fast Cash, a winner of the 2015 VOBIS Gold Carat (1200m), and Amadeus, who won the VOBIS Gold Bullion (1400m) last December and ran second to Widgee Turf this year in the VOBIS Gold Star (1500m).

The VOBIS Gold Eldorado is the fifth of 18 races in the 2017-18 VOBIS Gold Premier Race Series, which offers more than $3.5 million in prizemoney and bonuses for nominated horses.

Sunday’s race, which will be run at 4.35pm, features alongside the WINSEC Loans Wangaratta Gold Cup on day two of the Wangaratta Racing, Food & Wine Carnival.
