'Walk for Phil' returns for 2019

Registrations have opened for the third annual ‘Walk for Phil’, a charity fundraiser in honour of prominent racehorse owner Phil Sly, who passed away in 2016.

Sly, who raced talented horses including Group 1 winners Mosheen and Politeness, was a much-loved figure in the racing industry before he lost his fight with cancer three years ago.

Despite battling the disease for many years he never lost his passion for racing, and the walk will again celebrate Sly’s life while also raising vital funds for two charities which were close to his heart, Pinchapoo and Very Special Kids.

This year’s Walk for Phil will take place on Saturday 27 April, with start times of 6.30am for the full 24km hike (from Moonee Valley), and 9.45am for the 8km walk (from St. Kilda beach).

The walk will conclude at Caulfield Racecourse, which is hosting the Victorian Owners and Breeders Raceday that afternoon.
