James White was one of the most successful owner/breeders in Australian racing. He established the famous Segenhoe Stud in the Hunter Valley and his horses won many of the nation's biggest races including two Melbourne Cups, six VRC Derbies and five AJC Derbies.

His most famous horse was probably Martini Henry which remarkably won the VRC Derby and Melbourne Cup at its first two starts. James White also served two terms as the Chairman of the AJC.

White was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002.
