Born in London in 1868, Solomon Green migrated to Australia at the age of 15 and was to become one of the biggest bookmakers this country has ever seen.

Sol Green was also a prominent racehorse owner. His stayer Comedy King won the 1910 Melbourne Cup before becoming a successful sire while another horse, Gothic won successive Newmarket Handicaps in the late 1920s. He imported both horses.

Green also opened the Melbourne Tattersall's Club and was a flamboyant character, with a penchant for Havana Cigars and gold Rolls-Royces.

Green was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2002.
