George Hanlon was one of the oldest active licensed trainers in Australia until his passing on 28 January 2010.

In a career spanning more than 50 years he built up a formidable reputation training the winners of most of the nation's feature events.

His wins included three Melbourne Cups (Piping Lane, Arwon and Black Knight), a Caulfield Cup, a Brisbane Cup, an Australian Cup, Cox Plate, an AJC Derby and a Doncaster as well as four Adelaide Cups.
