Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards have today issued two
charges against licensed trainer Shawn Mathrick (trainer of Ayers Rock)
and one charge against Mrs Kim Mathrick (registered stable employee of Shawn
Mathrick).
These charges follow a raceday stable inspection
conducted by the RV Compliance Assurance Team (CAT) at Mr Mathrick’s stable on
17 April 2019.
Acting on the report by the CAT, the Stewards
subsequently ordered the withdrawal of Ayres Rock which was engaged to
race in the Prestige Jayco BM64 Handicap 2400 metres at Geelong Racecourse on
17 April 2019.
The particulars of Mr Mathrick’s charges are
summarised as follows:
Charge 1: AR 255 – Stomach
Tubing without permission of the Stewards
Stewards allege that Mr Mathrick,
without the permission of the Stewards, stomach-tubed,
caused or attempted to stomach tube Ayers
Rock on
Wednesday 17 April 2019, the day that it was scheduled to race.
Charge 2: AR 104 – Failure
to maintain treatment records
Stewards allege that Mr Mathrick
failed to record treatments and medications administered to horses in his care
in accordance with AR 104.
The particulars of Mrs Mathrick’s charge is
summarised as follows:
Charge: AR 255 – Stomach
Tubing without permission of the Stewards
Stewards allege that Mrs
Mathrick, without the permission of the Stewards, was
a party with Mr Mathrick to the stomach-tubing or attempted stomach-tubing of Ayres
Rock on
Wednesday 17 April 2019, the day that it was scheduled to race.
The charges against both
parties will be heard by the Victorian Racing Tribunal on a date to be fixed.
